e-DEMOCRACY CONFERENCE BACKGROUND

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are changing our society in increasingly invasive ways. Nowadays developing efficient, reflective, sustainable governance mechanisms in the public organizations has become a necessity.

The advancement of the Information Society calls for involvement of diverse stakeholders including international organizations, public institutions, private sector, academia and civil society representatives. The aim of the e-Democracy Conference is to integrate these stakeholders and develop a knowledge sharing platform that would enable continuous exchange of experiences and opinions about the enhancement of democracy.

e-DEMOCRACY CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

The e-Democracy Conference addresses from both the policy and technical perspectives, how the use of ICT can help improve transparency, accountability and effectiveness in the public institutions.

At the conference, members of public institutions: Parliaments, Government, Official Journals, NGO’s; experts from international organizations and academics who work with information and communication technologies in the legislative process have the opportunity to discuss about the use of ICT in public institutions, analyze good practices and learn from each other’s experiences.

Based on the outstanding success of the two previous conferences, we are proud to announce the e-Democracy Conference 2012 that will be held from 23rd - 25th September, 2012. The aim of this conference would be to expand the e-Democracy concept and transfer the experiences, knowledge and know-how gained in the previous years.

The conference will bring together the top of the e-government community and will provide a unique opportunity for an interactive forum that will allow the participants to exchange their knowledge, thoughts and results regarding the e-Democracy concepts in the region.

It is proposed that delegations from Parliament be led by Parliament Secretary General, Chairs of Parliamentary Committees with responsibility for ICT, Members of Parliament and Head of ICT department; delegations from Government be led by Secretary General and Head of ICT department, delegations from the Official Journal (Publication office) be led by Director General and Head of department ICT.
